Former Faculty and staff

Mrs. Azis (Asst. to the Principal) and her husband built their own home in Horseshoe Valley. She is a 4H Assoc. volunteer. They often visit their daughters and grandchildren in the US.

Sophie Bigiamis passed away on March 15, 2022 at the age of 67. We remember Sophia’s kind heart, warmth and ready smile and extend our sincere sympathies to her friends and family.

Mrs. Bryant (US French Teacher) retired in June and is adjusting to, and loving, the flexibility of time to do things that in the past she could not fit in.

Mrs. Cholette-Rees (US French Teacher) and her husband now live in Ottawa just 20 mins. from their family that now includes Evelyne (5yrs.)

Mr. diCosmo (Director of Advancement) is enjoying his work at the YMCA.

Mrs. Dexter (Head of the Junior School) and husband are living on their farm in Grey Highlands. They grow hundreds of lilies, snowshoe and cross country and are visited regularly by their grandchildren.

Dr. Ditchburn (Principal) is living a quiet life in Calgary and misses the opulence of Ontario in fall.

Mrs. Peggy Dykes-Paige former Office Staff/Summer Camp Secretary, passed away at home on March 10, 2022. She is mourned by her daughter Debbie Dykes (Steve Galipeau), nieces, nephews, friends and former colleagues.

Mrs. Garland (J.S Day School Office) and her husband have been travelling a lot. She is volunteering at her nephew’s charity – 1907 Research.

Mrs. Groesbeck (Principal) since Havergal, Mrs. Groesbeck has been Interim Head at schools in the US and one in Oman. She and her husband had visits from their grandchildren in each new setting.

Mrs. Dorothy Lancaster passed away on January 2, 2024, at 91. Dorothy, beloved mother of Elizabeth Lancaster ’81 (Scott) of Cressy and John (Marcy) of Toronto, and cherished grandmother of Taylor Stocks’ 07 and Charlotte, dedicated herself to education and ministry. After a distinguished tenure as Principal of Havergal College’s Lower School, she pursued a second career in ministry, becoming an Anglican Minister in Prince Edward County and left a lasting impact on both institutions.

Mrs. MacDonald (US Head of Art) after her husband’s death, took a pause before going on a wonderfully restorative trip to Haida Gwaii. She has two grandchildren Evy (5) and Ben (3).

Ms. Macintosh (Director of Student Life) retired from St. Clement’s School and is working with schools across Canada on whole school Climate Action Plans.

Mrs. Miller (School Nurse) is spending part of the year with her husband, who is still working in Georgia, US. They have three granddaughters and will welcome two grandsons this spring. She was delighted to finally get a hole-in-one.

Mrs. Pacini (Director of the O.G. Association) celebrated 45 yrs. of marriage and is working part-time supporting the Director, OHT and Transformation for North York Health Partners. She is volunteering as a Sacristan at St. Clement’s Church, Eglinton.

Ms. Robson (Dean of Students) formed a volunteer committee at Havergal to enable former colleagues to keep in touch with each other and with the school.

Mr. Paterson (Art Teacher) celebrated the 5th anniversary of the opening of his gallery, United Contemporary. He recently set up a studio for his own art practice.

Ms. Swanson (Head of Guidance) is the very happy grandmother of Finn (6) and Gordie (2) and spends as much time with them as possible.

Mr. Tayler (Gr. 7 and 8 English and Drama) and his husband moved home to Picton in 2020. His interests in photography, writing, theology, model trains and volunteering are thriving.

Mrs. Gallagher / Taylor (Math Teacher/Field Hockey Coach) and husband travelled to Greece, Germany, Hungary, Switzerland and to family in B.C. In May 2022 they hosted a family from Ukraine for over a year and have become close friends.

Mrs. Janet Thomas passed away on March 18, 2024, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s, at home with her loving husband and two beloved daughters. Janet, a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, spent her adult life teaching at Havergal College and enjoyed travelling the world, playing tennis, and supporting the Welsh rugby team.

Mrs. Turner (Head of Middle School / Principal of Junior School) after leaving Havergal, worked at schools in Ontario and the US and is now Head of a school in Collingwood where she and her husband live.

Mrs. Wilson (Head of Middle School) attended the Old Girls Reunion last fall and was delighted to meet so many former students. She spends the winter in Naples, Florida, and enjoys friends, sports and the Philharmonic.

Mrs. Yearwood (Director of Advancement) and her husband have settled happily into their new home in Cobourg.
