Yonnie Wong is currently in the travel and technology space, having recently started a new position as Key Account Manager at WebBeds, one of the biggest hotel wholesalers in the industry. Also, a recipient of Top 30 Under 30 Award in 2021, which recognizes the industry’s top young performers and leaders in Canada. The award is issued by Kostuch Media, the publisher of Hotelier Magazine & Food Service and Hospitality Magazine, and recipients vary from different spectrums of hospitality (food, hotel, travel, tech etc).

Sarah Freeman graduated from the University of Toronto’s medical school in 2020 and is now entering her final year of residency training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at UofT.  Last year she was recognized with a resident teaching award for her efforts in mentoring and teaching the medical students. Mariya Gorlova took up yoga last year (both the heated and regular variety in addition to aerial) and enjoys spending time in the studio. On the weekends she has been busy with horseback riding lessons and entered her first riding school show series. Mariya also celebrated earning her Registered Professional Planner designation in April 2024.

On September 9th, 2023, Emily Matthews married Phil (Lindstedt), at the University of Cambridge, where they met during grad school. They are living in London, UK. Simran Ghoman will be completing her medical degree from the University of Calgary this spring and beginning her residency in Obstetrics & Gynaecology at the University of Alberta this summer! She will be travelling throughout the Mediterranean during her summer holidays to celebrate this achievement.

Taylor Simon has been working for York Region District School Board as an elementary school teacher for the last two years. In summer 2023, Taylor worked as a teaching assistant for the Toronto Zoo School where she taught grade 11 biology. After a vacation to Costa Rica in September, Taylor fell in love with the two-toed sloths at a local wildlife rescue and will be returning to Costa Rica for summer 2024 to work as a Sloth Team Coordinator. She will be supporting international volunteers from around the world as they care for the two-toed sloths under the care of the wildlife rescue. Taylor is continuing her formal education journey by pursuing her Master of Education at Nipissing University (online). This year, Lexi Ensor officially stepped into her role as President of HOGA and had the opportunity to get to know and work with a fantastic group of Old Girls. It was a busy year, but they made some great progress on reaching more Old Girls and Alum through a variety of events and new initiatives. She was also able to meet some of the newest HOGA members in Montreal and speak on behalf of HOGA at an alumni engagement conference.

Lisa Wight has been loving life on the west coast with her roommate (and fellow Old Girl) Gillian Smith (Class of 2018)! Lisa will be graduating from UBC with a Master of Public Health in September 2024, and she’s very excited to continue working as a Contractor with Changemark Research + Evaluation.

This past summer, Sydney Veres led a 50-Day canoe trip across northern Ontario. She is now working at the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority as an administrative assistant and will begin her master’s degree in Forest Conservation at the University of Toronto this fall. Caragh Shea designed a room for the Palm Beach Kips Bay Designer Showhouse in support of the Boys & Girls Club of the Palm Beaches and was featured in Veranda Magazine. Natalie Ashgriz moved to Switzerland in September to pursue a master’s in technology policy at ETH Zürich. Caroline Cui is also starting a master’s program this year at the University of Calgary in Biological Science.

Ainslie Shouldice was accepted into the MD/PhD program at Western University! She will start her journey to becoming a doctor in September of 2024. Katie Pirie is also training to become a doctor. She attends medical school at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in Dublin. Samantha Lee and Laura Seidelin want everyone to know that they met Lil Nas X at TIFF. Similarly, Rachel Chen saw Stormzy getting out of a Tesla in central London, where she lives and is completing a law degree. Anna Wellner graduated in July with distinction from the University of Edinburgh’s Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies. She is currently working her dream job as a mixed practice vet in a village in rural North Yorkshire. She treats cattle, rabbits and everything in between. Anna also adopted a Border Collie that she loves very much.

Sam Leung is working in Research & Development for a VFX company in Vancouver. Samantha Parker lives in Providence, Rhode Island and is about to complete a Master of Public Health at Brown University. She recently went to Rome with Megan Osler and they ate a lot of artichokes. Niki Sennik graduated from University of Guelph last June. She spent time travelling to Spain and Egypt with Jessy Riad. Afterwards, Niki took on a full-time role at PepsiCo Beverages and recently got promoted. She works to support implementing state of the art equipment at the Toronto site. Niki says this project has been very challenging but also extremely rewarding. She can’t wait to see the new and improved product in stores knowing that she helped get it onto the shelf.

Since graduating from Sheridan College’s musical theatre program last year, Ally Hutchison Chozik has launched a new Toronto-based musical theatre production company! Makeshift Company is making its production debut with “When You Close Your Eyes” by Jessa Richer, an original horror musical about female friendship, escapism, and the nature of evil. Tickets are available now via Theatre Passe Muraille’s box office. Makeshift Company held a fundraiser cabaret in late June and looks forward to fall productions that aim to expand on the current Canadian canon of musical theatre. Aside from production endeavours, Ally has been heavily focusing on continued language learning and improving her French fluency. In the next few months, on top of directing “When You Close Your Eyes”, she’s looking forward to travelling, starting with a trip to New York to see the musical Teeth. Kyla Leong-Poi is graduating in 2024 and heading to the University of Ottawa to pursue a Master of Education in Counselling Psychology!

Senaida Ng will be graduating from the Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music at NYU and starting grad school at NYU’s Interactive Media Arts (IMA) Low Residency program. In 2023, she founded a Brooklyn interdisciplinary artist collective called, WE ARE THE FUTURE! hosting a series of underground art parties for creatives. The same year, she DJ’d over 100 shows including New York Fashion Week and a sold-out Halloween warehouse rave. In January 2024, Senaida played her first international tour in Colombia as a DJ and went on tour in Berlin. In February, she released a single with Grimes AI, called “IAMABADBITCH”, and this summer will be releasing a debut full-length audio-visual album, KUNST KAPUTT.

Nana Ohene-Darkoh enters her final year of her Bachelor of Medicine degree at the University of Central Lancashire. She also recently lent her voice and expertise to the annual Commission on the Status of Women conference. Engaging in workshops with women from around the globe, Nana passionately tackled topics central to this year’s theme: accelerating gender equality and addressing institutional inequities. Her active participation and commitment to dialogue exemplify her dedication to fostering meaningful change within her community and beyond. Nicole Miehm continues to soar to new heights in her academic and professional journey. Having previously excelled as part of the repo sales and trading team at RBC Capital Markets, Nicole now embarks on a new chapter as she delves into the Master of Management in Finance program at McGill University. Her acceptance into this prestigious program speaks volumes about her dedication and expertise in the field. Nicole is looking forward to making significant strides in the world of finance and beyond.

At UofT, Joanne Stavropoulos has recently discovered a profound passion for research. Embracing a newfound path, Joanne recently applied to several master’s programs, ultimately securing a coveted spot in the MA Political Science program at UofT. Thrilled by this exciting opportunity, Joanne is eager to immerse herself in the close-knit community of the program, recognizing the potential for impactful collaboration and growth. With her sights set on making meaningful contributions in her field of research, Joanne is ready to continue her academic journey at U of T before attending law school.

Kristen Borland is gearing up for an exciting transition this year! She’ll be moving to New York to join EY in structured finance this fall. But, before diving into her new role, she’s embarking on a month-long European adventure with her tennis team, exploring iconic cities like London, Barcelona, Ibiza, Venice, and Rome. Adding to her achievements, Kristen recently graduated from Tulane’s business school. Beyond her academic pursuits, she remains dedicated to making a difference in her community through volunteering. Amidst her busy schedule, Kristen is also finding time to explore new hobbies and interests, keeping her passion for lifelong learning alive.
