The 2025 Havergal Old Girl Awards of Distinction shine a spotlight on the remarkable accomplishments of our community. This year, the extraordinary contributions of our Old Girls/Alums have led us to recognize two recipients in each award category, reflecting the leadership, creativity, and dedication that continue to define the Havergal community.
Havergal Old Girls Lifetime Achievement Award
The 2025 Havergal Old Girl Awards of Distinction shine a spotlight on the remarkable accomplishments of our community. This year, the extraordinary contributions of our Old Girls/Alums have led us to recognize two recipients in each award category, reflecting the leadership, creativity, and dedication that continue to define the Havergal community.
Judy Baggaley Savage ’81
Havergal Old Girls Lifetime Achievement Award
Judy Baggaley Savage has led the Lions Gate Hospital Foundation (LGHF) as President and CEO since 2001, transforming healthcare philanthropy on the North Shore. Under her leadership, LGHF has raised over $400 million, with annual donations growing from $3 million to $45 million and the endowment increasing from $6 million to $90 million. Judy spearheaded major campaigns including the Paul Myers Tower, a new Oncology Clinic, and the Hope Centre for Mental Health and Addictions, as well as BC’s first youth concurrent disorders unit. She also directed LGHF’s rapid COVID-19 response, raising $1.3 million in critical funds. A Queen’s graduate and Certified Fund-Raising Executive, Judy is known for her clarity, compassion, and results-driven leadership, building strong networks of donors, volunteers, and healthcare leaders.

Mariko Tamaki ’93
Havergal Old Girls Lifetime Achievement Award
Mariko Tamaki is an acclaimed Canadian writer of comics, prose, television, and film. Best known for This One Summer (with Jillian Tamaki), her work has reshaped contemporary Young Adult literature with honest and nuanced storytelling. Mariko has received numerous accolades including the Eisner Award for Best Writer (2024), as well as Ignatz, Joe Shuster, and Doug Wright Awards. Her recent novel Roaming was shortlisted for the Lambda Literary Award for LGBTQ+ Comics. She has written for Marvel and DC Comics and developed screen projects for Apple TV+ and Disney. Through her work, she brings visibility to LGBTQ+ experiences and offers young readers powerful stories of identity, resilience, and belonging. Mariko lives and works in Los Angeles.

Jocelyn Ho ’04
Susan Ditchburn Young Alumna Award
Jocelyn Ho is the founder and CEO of Rare Plant Fairy, a luxury nursery that has grown from her Detroit apartment into a 12,000-sq-ft facility with 25+ employees and an in-house tissue culture lab. Her company supplies rare tropical plants worldwide and advances conservation by propagating endangered species such as the ghost orchid. Recognized as a 2025 EY Entrepreneur Of The Year® Regional Award Winner, a Crain’s 40 Under 40 honoree, and one of Michigan’s 50 Companies to Watch, Jocelyn also champions STEM education, mentoring Detroit youth through field trips, hands-on learning, and financial support. Her mission is to preserve biodiversity, elevate the horticultural industry, and deliver one million pots of happiness into homes and communities.

Stephanie Applin ’04
Susan Ditchburn Young Alumna Award
Stephanie Applin is an arts leader with a background in fundraising, choral music, and opera. Since 2021, she has been Director of Advancement at Tapestry Opera, helping produce award-winning premieres, overseeing the launch of the Nancy & Ed Jackman Performance Centre, and expanding the Women in Musical Leadership program to support women and non-binary conductors across Canada. Previously, Stephanie was General Director of MYOpera and a founding member of Indie Opera Toronto, producing operas that redefined Toronto’s independent music scene. She also managed festivals and events across Europe with Mandinga Arts in London, UK. Stephanie holds a master’s degree from City, University of London, and serves as Chair of the Opera Canada board, which produces the national opera awards, The Rubies.
