In this edition of Chronicle, we’re pleased to share a conversation between Kate Crokam, Executive Director of Advancement, and Naomi Melvin ’09, Co-Editor-in-Chief, Chronicle, as they reflect on the collaborative efforts of Old Girls/Alums and the school in shaping Havergal College’s story.
Kate: Naomi, every time we work on Chronicle, I’m reminded how much of a partnership it is between Old Girls/Alums and the school. From your perspective as Co-Editor-in-Chief, how does this collaboration show up in the magazine?
Naomi: For me, we’re inherently connected with mutual desires! We want Chronicle to feel rooted in the Old Girls’/Alums’ experience beyond the ivy, while also providing a clear lens into what is happening at Havergal right now. By weaving together stories from the past and the present, from true collaboration between the Havergal Old Girl Association (HOGA) community and Havergal College, we can highlight the ripple effect of the community. The experiences and support of Old Girls/Alums continue to shape and inspire the Havergal of today, and we hope today’s happenings within the school continue to inspire those who once walked these cherished halls.
Kate: That “ripple effect” really captures it. Old Girls/Alums strengthen the Havergal experience in so many ways: through philanthropy and mentorship, and by sharing their stories with students and with one another. How do you see this issue reflecting that?
Naomi: This issue shines a light on that connection in many ways. From celebrating our award recipients to showcasing milestone reunions to sharing updates on initiatives such as Ahead of the Game, you can see the threads that bond us all together. The past and the present are deeply connected, and that interplay makes the community stronger.
Kate: Exactly. It is a reminder that Old Girls/Alums are not only part of Havergal’s history, but also an active part of its present and future.
Naomi: Completely. That is what makes this work so meaningful. Every story reinforces that Havergal is a community where connections last, and where each generation encourages and inspires the next.
Through this ongoing collaboration, Chronicle continues to celebrate the enduring friendships, shared traditions and forward momentum that define Havergal.
As you immerse yourself in the pages of this year’s Chronicle, we hope that you, too, feel the ripple effect imprinted on your unique journey — whether it’s started from a person, a space, a class or a tradition at Havergal.
